Winter Field Day
Winter Field Day is a nation wide event where Amateur Radio Operators bring their gear outside and try making as many contacts as possible.
The main objective with WFD is to practice communications under non-optimal conditions. There is a defined exchange, and the are points for contacts, running on battery, low power etc, but Winter Field Day is not technically a contest. The whole idea is to get you outside and prove that you can make things work without having the warm infrastructure of your shack, Internet and a comfy armchair.
North Hills Radio Club will set up in Jan Park on Saturday morning around 9 am, and we will stay for as long as we feel like it. Usually that means until the sun sets.
NOTE : The official Winter Field Day event runs both Saturday and Sunday, but we only plan to be in the park during daylight hours on Saturday the 25th. We do not stay overnight, and we will not be in the park on Sunday.
If you want to bring a station, antennas or other gear, please connect with us on one of our Nets before the event. This way we can make sure everyone that wants to try something gets a chance to do so.
Even if you do not bring anything with you, this is an excellent opportunity to see other setups, learn about antennas, how to participate in a contest or just hang around and eat snacks. Most of the WFD activity is long-distance on HF, but even if you are a Technician you can join us and operate as long as there's a control operator with a General or Extra license around (and there will be!).
