New Remote Receiver
The K6IS/E repeater system has a new remote receiver north of Auburn!
The remote receiver on Sugar Mountain, north of Auburn is now live! This brings our total system to three remote receivers plus the main site in Folsom, and adds significantly better coverage around Auburn and Lincoln as well as act as a backup for Pine Hill.
Background
We initially got access to this site in August 2025, and quickly got equipment installed, sharing the receive antenna with our friends at RCARCS. However the system did not perform as expected, and the leasing terms for the site were unclear. RCARCS had better technical results, and decided to carry the cost for the site while we worked on our technical issues and the negotiations with the site owner. THANK YOU RCARCS!
In August 2026 we finally found the issue in our voting receiver which improved the performance, and we also got the leasing terms sorted out. In September 2026, the NHRC board voted to keep the new site as an official part of the K6IS/E system for at least a year.
About the new receiver
The Auburn/Sugar Mountain receiver site sits on a 2000ft ASL ridge about 6 miles straight north of Auburn. The receive antenna is shared with RCARCS, and the signal is transmitted via UHF to our main Folsom K6IS/E site where our voter and transmitter is.
This site has a lot of overlap with our Pine Hill site, but fills in where the Pine Hill receiver is less effective, such as areas around Auburn, Lincoln and Rocklin. The statistics for the last week of September shows that Pine Hill is voted ~40%, Folsom and Auburn is voted ~25% each, and Mt Vaca is voted ~10% of the time.
This addition is a great upgrade to our system ! Thank you to RCARCS for sharing the site, to Chris/N6ICW for climbing, building and providing equipment and Russ/KN6SD for his expertise, negotiating the site and risking his life in cleaning out the bunker!
